Year 1

In Year 1, children build on the foundations of the Early Years and begin their journey into more structured learning. Our curriculum remains practical, engaging and enriching, helping pupils grow in confidence while developing key skills across all subjects. Children continue to strengthen their early reading through daily phonics, explore different text types in writing, and develop secure number skills in mathematics through hands-on problem-solving. In science, pupils investigate the world around them through topics such as seasonal changes, plants, animals and materials.

Alongside core subjects, children enjoy a broad range of foundation subjects including history, geography, art, design technology, computing, music and PE. Learning is often topic-based, encouraging creativity and helping pupils make meaningful connections across different areas. Personal development is woven throughout the curriculum, supporting children to build friendships, understand their feelings, stay safe and recognise differences. We promote independence, resilience, kindness and a positive attitude to learning, helping children become confident, curious and ready for the next stage of their education.
