Birkby Infant and Nursery School: Creating an Active School
At Birkby Infant and Nursery School, physical education, healthy lifestyles and emotional wellbeing are central to everything we do. We are proud to be part of Creating Active Schools (CAS) – a research-based, wholeschool approach designed to increase highquality physical activity and remove barriers that prevent children from being active.
Being active supports learning, behaviour, health, and happiness, and we are committed to helping every child move more and move well.
Why Become an Active School?
Research shows children learn best when they are active, engaged and moving. Active learning supports focus, wellbeing and progress and it is a key part of our Move and Learn approach. Active learning supports:
Better focus & attention – movement breaks help children concentrate.
More enjoyment – active tasks make learning fun and inclusive.
Stronger attainment – physical activity boosts brain function.
Improved health – reduces risks linked to inactivity.
Positive wellbeing – movement supports mood and confidence.
Lifelong habits – small routines build long‑term healthy behaviours.
