Reception
Our Reception curriculum builds on the foundations of Nursery, supporting every child to become a confident, independent learner. Following the EYFS framework, we focus on the three prime areas; Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and Physical Development; while deepening learning across Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Children learn through a balance of purposeful play and focused adult-led teaching. Our environment encourages curiosity, problem-solving and collaboration, supported by strong routines that help children develop independence and self-regulation.
We place particular emphasis on early reading and phonics, vocabulary development, mathematical understanding, and the physical skills needed for writing. First-hand experiences and exploration of the natural and wider world enrich the curriculum.
Progress is closely monitored through ongoing assessment and observation, ensuring teaching is responsive to each child’s needs. By the end of Reception, our aim is for children to be enthusiastic, confident learners who are ready for the challenges of Key Stage 1.
