No Ordinary Time – Commissioned by The Lawrence Batley Theatre with images by Vinny Tyrell

Lawrence Batley Theatre presents – No Ordinary Time a new online exhibition – documenting the impact of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement on the local African-Caribbean community in Kirklees:

2020 – the start of a new decade, for many a chance to refresh, reset and renew. Instead we find ourselves battling two deadly global pandemics – COVID-19; and systemic racism.

This digital exhibition captures life for the African-Caribbean community in Kirklees during this incomparable time and asks what the lasting impact of 2020 on our communities and young people will be.

No Ordinary Time explores race, power and trust through documentary photography taken in Kirklees during the easing of lockdown

The images in the exhibition are by locally-based photographer Vinny Tyrell who through this project has been enabled to undertake her first professional commission and has since gained a subsequent paid work – allowing her to kickstart her professional creative journey.
